PROBLEM
Choose a theme, whether it be the sky, woods, or ocean. With a focus on your theme, create vector assets that illustrate and communicate the idea of that theme, and convey the feeling that it gives visually. Consider style, line weight, and a uniform size and style. From there, create a repeating pattern using those icons, paying attention to how your pattern repeats and fills the page as a whole.
SOLUTION
I went with a strong concentration on an ocean theme. I wanted it to be very playful, yet confined and controlled, and for that, symmetry was key. I wanted to have the pattern work well with the icons through value and scale, along with the idea of a fishnet gathering all of the vector shapes in an organized fashion, to stay on theme.
