Liv - Product Design
A concept mindfulness app to prevent self harm among teens.
FOREWORD / PROBLEM
With Liv, I've decided to address a true plague in younger generations - self harm.
HealthyPsych defines 'Self Harm,' as “a broad term that refers to any conscious and deliberate act of harm toward oneself - it's most common in young teens. An example like cutting “isn’t a suicide attempt, though it may look and seem that way.” Cutting is one in a complex group of behaviors known as self-harm that involves a deliberate decision to mutilate or hurt oneself. People who cut themselves usually try to conceal their wounds, thereby cutting in places easily covered by clothing. Affecting young people aged 12-24 years old, cutting is the most common of all self-harm methods.
SOLUTION
I focused on the youngest - those the least equipped to cope emotionally with powerful from the distress in their life. Below is the visual and contextual summary of my process, from empathy to ideation.
This app is designed to act as an alternative coping method for those inclined to harm themselves when all else fails - including seeking professional help. The concept product fosters a very individual experience - but it doesn’t necessarily have to feel like a solitary one. Scroll on to see what I mean.
